The great thing about electronic editions is that you can eat your cake and have it too. Since online space is very cheap compared to paper publication, you can readily create an edition with both untampered and updated entries:

</untampered>
<updated>
...
</updated>
</entry>
For now, I think we should try to digitize the original as accurately as possible, but I very much hope that this ends up being the point of departure for much correction, annotation, and revision.
