Well, I've just opened my first page of the Cleasby document (b0051) in Wordpad and it displays just fine (tags and ampersand entries present). I am using XP at the moment by the way. I did not see a special "open as..." entry anywhere, and it makes no difference whether I select "text file" or "text file with ms-dos arrangement". They both work fine.

A solution that might work is using NOTEpad instead of WORDpad. NotePad generally has no capabilities in attempting to display HTML tags, even though signs like ð and such can appear. Perhaps it will work if you open the text in Notepad?

I must say I am baffled by this problem. I have never experienced Wordpad or Notepad converting such codes.

greetings,

Oscar
