Subject: Re: Weiha
Weiha is pronounced "WEE-ha." ei spells a long "EE" sound (IPA /i:/), following Greek spelling conventions. Weiha is related to the adjective weihs "holy".
According to Torp, weihs is cognate with Old English woh, wg, meaning "idol". (Torp spells weihsas veihs.)
A quick search doesn't turn up much on the two Old English words you mention. However, it appears that those words can't be cognate with the Gothic word weiha, because an /h/ in Gothic can't correspond to a /k/ (usually spelled c) in Old English, unless there's some minor sound change I'm forgetting.
Gothic /h/ and OE /g/ can correspond, however, as part of the residue of Verner's Law. This is seen in the cognate wg.
