Subject: Note on submitting corrections on the message board
Hi,
When I first set up this website around ten years ago, I built in the functionality for only a single round of corrections. This decision was the right one at the time (I might have never gotten the site written if I tried to do everything; and there was a huge amount of data to correct, so it was better to do _something_). Now, of course, the need to allow further corrections is obvious. Unfortunately, it would take a significant rewrite of the site code to allow this.
Just a note about where the project is. Between 1999-2005, I created and ran the project, because I wanted the data as part of a long-term academic research plan. I made six attempts to secure major funding for the project, and the grant proposals always got good reviews, but never made the final cut. I ended up leaving academia, and I've now been in industry for the past five years. I've left the site up, and I'd like to still work on it as a hobby, but other projects have had to take priority for now.
Ondrej Tichy's team has been working further on Bosworth/Toller, but there's not currently any organized effort around any of the other texts.
I appreciate the corrections which folks are submitting on the message board, and I wish there were some easy way to get those corrections into the data. If I ever have a chance to rewrite the site, I'd hope to build in some way to allow these correction messages to be marked completed as volunteers go through them.
However, I wouldn't submit entire pages on the message board. It would be too much work at this end to try to integrate pieces of data in that form back into the collection of data.
I can't guarantee that I'll ever have time to do the rewrite of the site, but it's something I do hope to get to; I've made two stabs at it over the past five years, but got interrupted both times. I'm sure I'll try again, and one of the attempts will probably get finished at some point.
