Subject: The meaning of trapp
I'm trying to find the exact meaning to the Germanic word "trapp". The word occurs in the surname Trapphoff ("hoff" most likely meaning farm, and not hoof). From what I am told, "trapp" means the gallop of a horse or horse steps. The word may be Plattdeusch, originating for that part of Germany. I can only think that it might be akin to the High German word "trepp", the step of a staircase.
