Subject: "linguistically-isolated population"
I did a search and found this message board. Would someone kindly help me?
What is the accurate definition of a "linguistically-isolated population"?
I used to think that it is a population that speaks with a dying language, or a population that speaks a langauge while being surrounded by the dominant language group.
But recently I saw a use of the term to describe those who don't speak English in the U.S. For example, Spanish speakers who do not speak English living in Miami would be considered part of the "linguistically-isolated population."
Thank you so much!
Amanda
